Dealer Benefits:

Dealers using the system report significant reductions in leak related warranty disputes. They are able to  competently find and repair leaks throughout warranty periods, and beyond, and can now provide manufacturers and customers with acceptable and objective evidence of work needed. Customer satisfaction resulting from repair of (often long existent) leaks leads to enhanced sales of service, parts and new and used RVs. Users report increases in referrals from satisfied customers as well. A frequent comment is: “I can’t see how any dealer or repair shop would not wish to have a Sealtech 430R; it has made us truly a full service facility.”

The RV industry anticipates continued strong demand for new units resulting from a healthy economy and the vast number of baby boomers turning to the RV retirement lifestyle. This group has historically demanded quality and value when purchasing big-ticket items. But, recurring water leak problems can overshadow all the quality, beauty and luxury built into current model RVs.

Consider the competitive advantage in being able to offer multi-year water leak warranties on new units, subject to completion of pre-scheduled leak tests and repairs. Extended leak warranty packages could also be offered. Sale of extended warranties has been a profit generator in the automotive industry for many years. These options are viable only when the manufacturer and dealer can be certain all developing water leaks can be efficiently pinpointed and repaired before damage occurs.

Manufacturer Benefits:

One of the most frustrating problems facing the RV manufacturing industry is ensuring that outer claddings on new units do not leak on delivery to retail customers. Because design, weight and price considerations dictate construction materials and methods, the practical solution to water leaks is the identifications and repair of all outer skin faults before the unit leaves:

  • the manufacturer's or

  • the dealer's premises.

  • Until now, the precise location of outer skin faults for repair has not been possible on a cost-effective basis.

During the last four years, we have worked on a broad spectrum of RV brands, types and models while promoting the Sealtech 430R rain leak detection system. We have performed leak tests on a large number of new and near new RVs, some in manufacturer and dealer inventories and others that were returned for leak repairs under warranty. A small number had been returned to dealers for refund due to persistent rain leaks continuing from point of sale.

    Some observations:

many RV units contain rainwater leaks when shipped to dealers,

most  RVs develop rainwater leaks over time; often prior to retail sale,

manufacturers are typically unaware of the extent or location of rainwater leaks in their products,

most rainwater leaks found in new units are discovered by consumers after purchase,

significant numbers of RVs require leak repairs within two years of manufacture, sometimes prior to leaving dealers’ premises,

leaks are often caused by flaws in purchased doors and windows,

persistent water leaks are responsible for a number of collapsed sales each year,

rain booth testing has not been a reliable means of testing and locating water leaks,

locating water leaks for repair has been hit and miss; the most frustrating warranty problem.

The above conditions result in serious unnecessary costs to manufacturers and dealers, i.e.:

  •  senior staff time devoted to warranty dispute resolution,

  •  ineffective leak repairs, such as re-caulking seams when windows are leaking, or vice-versa, leading to multiple leak repair attempts on the same units,

  • repairs caused by failure to identify chronically leaking,  poorly sealed windows and doors,

  • epairs of excessive scope undertaken in the hope that the fault will be caught in the blanket repair,

  • transportation of units to and from factory for repair.

  • The direct and indirect costs (loss of brand name and supplier prestige, etc.) have to be staggering. They are unnecessary! Manufacturers using the Sealtech 430R report reductions in leak related warranty costs varying with the proportion of units tested and repaired. Most use the system to identify and eliminate design and production flaws. Some test every RV produced while others perform test checks on a sample of their output. Fewer warranty claims result in increased customer satisfaction. The Sealtech 430R has also been a welcome addition to a number of customer service departments. One leading manufacturer has made three loaner Sealtech 430R systems available to its dealers, shipping them to various dealers rather than transporting the leaking RV home for repairs. Some manufacturers have raised the possibility of encouraging or even helping their dealers to acquire a Sealtech 430R. To support this concept, we have instituted a volume price discount plan applicable to multiple unit orders from manufacturer-dealer groups. Invoicing can be to individual dealers or to a sponsoring manufacturer.

Very few dealer/repair shops have expressly denied us the opportunity to show the Sealtech 430R. One who has, commented  “We make our profits doing expensive total reseal work, and rebuilding water damaged components. Why would we want to prevent the need for these services?” We know that this attitude is not prevalent, but it has evolved over time as water leaks have been endemic to the RV industry. It is no longer valid or acceptable. The Sealtech 430R is a viable, cost-effective and certain way to ensure that your RV units reach the market leak-free and pristine, and remain so during their warranty periods and beyond.

We are truly into the information age, where product information is increasingly available to interested consumer groups. There are now web sites where owners can air their grievances and experiences with various RVs, manufacturers and dealers! Customer satisfaction is paramount as we enter the new millennium.

The goals of Sealtech Manufacturing Inc. are to bring innovative, high quality, profit - generating products to market, and to work in partnership with you to our mutual advantage. Incidentally, we have not yet had a warranty claim on the system.

    One owner comments……

"We are completely satisfied with our SEALTECH 43OR leak diagnostic system.  It has removed the guesswork from the problem of locating water leaks, and allowed us to locate and repair even particularly troublesome leaks that were impossible to locate without the system.  Our experience is that the system performs as advertised."

Chuck Wallis, owner/manager of RV Camper & Trailer Clinic Ltd., Langley B.C., servicing the RV industry since 1972.
